Urban Modern House | Salt Lake City, Utah
This project was about the right lot in the wrong location. At the time it was surrounded by tired bungalows and drooping cottages that had lost their shine to years of being rental properties. Its home had given up.
But a stout little walnut tree rooted in the backyard defied the dilapidation and decline, waiting for better things.
With few appealing exterior views, the lot's new home now creates it's own internal views. At the center of the home is an all glass, open-to-the-air courtyard entirely enclosed by private spaces on one side and public on the other.
Centrally located it breathes light, fresh air, and plant life into every space of the home. Planted with trees, flowers, and fresh herbs, it creates an opportunity for garden views where ever you are.
The master bedroom also has it's own courtyard with the same benefits. But it has something the other does not- an outdoor shower for those warm summer nights under the stars.
Since it's arrival, we're please to report that the neighborhood has cleaned up, all thanks to a hopeful walnut tree.
