Not many of its residents know that Salt Lake City has a sister city in Japan. Nor do they know that Matsumoto is Salt Lake City's oldest sister city with a rich history dating back to the post World War II era.
It was precisely for this reason that the Salt Lake City Center for Documentary Arts commissioned the informational kiosk known as 'Ceremonies'.
Supplemental to the written word informing users of Matsumoto's history, the kiosk's structure nods to traditional Japanese architecture joinery and form.
Over a 5 year program the kiosk traveled throughout the Salt Lake Valley to schools, libraries, and public spaces with the goal of increasing awareness, knowledge, tolerance, and diversity.
