Silver Summit is a modern home set on forty acres in Park City, Utah, facing forward to the Wasatch Back. Rather than carve a flat pad from the hillside, the design lets the home step down with the land in a series of stacked volumes, with less excavation, lower cost, and far less disturbance to the site. Less, here is genuinely more.

Each overlapping level takes a distinct purpose: the uppermost holds the communal heart of the home; a few easy steps down opens a dedicated master level; and the lowest becomes the children's domain with its own guest suite. The transitions between them are gentle, more a drift through the house than a climb.

The materials are honest and built for the mountains: imperial brick buttresses the home against the slope, contrasted with light hemlock siding and floor-to-ceiling glass. A pocketing glass wall dissolves the line between the great room and an outdoor kitchen, and a party-sized roof deck crowns it all, open to the Wasatch beyond.
