Ridge Nest is a modern ski cabin near Powder Mountain in Eden, Utah, a compact retreat that all but disappears into its slope. Here, landscape and structure become one: a single roof plane peels upward toward the sky on one side while folding down to follow the grade on the other, planted as a living green roof you can walk up and across.
Where the roof lifts, the living room opens. Its ceiling seems to rest weightlessly on walls of glass, flooding the space with daylight and an unbroken connection to the sloping glass that tapers with intent to screen the neighbors and concentrate the view.
Set into the hillside, the cabin lets the earth do quiet work: a few feet down, the ground holds a steady temperature year-round, smoothing out Utah's daily swings. And because the roof follows the grade, you can ski to the front door after a powder day and step out the lower-level walk-out onto the cat track below, ski-in, ski-out, without a hint of exaggeration.
