Giverny is a modern ski home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, set at the base of the Cottonwood Canyons and their claim to the greatest snow on earth. Its form follows its function directly: two separate masses house the home's private activities, joined by an open central volume built for gathering.
The home is built for every season, a north-facing covered deck for summer dining, a west deck for sunsets, and a lower patio for larger crowds, each recessed into the home for privacy. Views are captured selectively: high east windows frame the Wasatch peaks while screening the neighbors, and broad west-facing glass pulls in the valley below.
The master suite and office claim their own wing, and with the slightest modification, the layout becomes a lockout, ready for a rental, an in-law, or a long-term guest. Clad in painted corrugated metal for decades of maintenance-free life, it even turns a neighbor's retaining wall to advantage, a smart, adaptable ski home, ready for whatever the season brings.
