Three simple volumes gather on the base of a hill, viewing directly into the handiwork of water and 150 million years of deposition - this is the watchman cabin.
The program consists of a residence, a casita and a ping pong court [aka garage], embraced by roughly hewn desert red concrete block and organized around a courtyard. Where the concrete wall is the spine, the courtyard is the heart. A semi-private space where occupants come to eat, rest and connect over shared tales of adventure.
Ten years in the making, the watchman cabin came to fruition through the tenacity of a client and a seemingly simple dream; build a modern retreat at the mouth of Zion National Park. The owner, an honorary architect and renowned whittler of hiking staffs approached Imbue for his second go at the cabin [we understand the previous design was an exercise in large ambitions]. Together we carried an empathetic approach to the environment. Long story short, the dream is now a reality.
