a hillside cabin becomes a generational retreat for a musical family

Having made their home in several states throughout the country, this family has long felt a connection to the beauty of Interlaken and a love for the bond it provides. A retreat where harmony, creativity, recreation, and respite can abound.
Nestled between gambel oaks and native rock outcroppings, the structure aligns with the natural topography to minimize site impact while capturing views of the Wasatch Mountain Range and the protected landscape of the eastern hillside.
Sliding and pocketing away, a glass wall extends the interior living space to a cantilevered deck – a platform to enjoy each other’s company, as well as the daily sunset.
Natural materials clad every interior and exterior surface of the retreat, providing warmth, texture and authenticity to the building form.
After a few festive family events, the private retreat is now a legacy for the entire clan to call their own.
